Kumeū grew from the 1870s after a railway linked it to Riverhead, and since the 1970s it has grown together with Huapai into a single township. Around it sits a substantial area of lifestyle blocks, vineyards and farms, with a winemaking industry built up by Croatian New Zealanders by the 1940s. So roofing here covers town homes, rural houses, sheds and barns, from the Kumeū Showgrounds out along the Kumeū River.

On many of those properties the roof is also the water supply. Homes on lifestyle blocks rely on rainwater tanks, so the roofing, coatings, spouting and cleaning all need to suit drinking water collection. We visit for a free on-site measure, look at the house and outbuildings, and give you an itemised written quote.

Roofing Services in Kumeū

Every other roofing service we offer in Kumeū, and what each one covers:

  • Roof Replacement: When repairs no longer make sense, we replace the roof completely and leave you with a roof that is good for decades.
  • Tile to Metal Re-Roofing: Swapping heavy concrete tiles for lightweight steel removes weight from the frame and ends the cycle of cracked tiles and leaks.
  • Asbestos Roof Replacement: Older Super Six and fibre cement roofs can contain asbestos.
  • Decramastic Roof Replacement: Decramastic tiles lose their chip coating and rust from the inside.
  • Roof Leak Repairs: We track a leak to its source, which is often nowhere near the stain on your ceiling, and fix the cause.
  • Emergency Roof Repairs: Storm damage made safe fast, then repaired with the photos and reports your insurer needs.
  • Tile Roof Repairs: Cracked and slipped tiles replaced, ridges rebedded and repointed, and leaks under tiles traced and sealed.
  • Roof Flashing: Flashings around chimneys, skylights, walls and valleys cause most leaks.
  • New Roofs: New roofs for new builds, extensions and minor dwellings, installed to plans and signed off for your Code Compliance Certificate.
  • Metal Roofing: Longrun COLORSTEEL roofing in corrugate and trapezoidal profiles, rolled to length for your roof.
  • Membrane Roofing: Flat and low-pitch roofs, decks and gutters waterproofed with butynol and modern membrane systems.
  • Skylights: Roof windows and skylights installed or replaced with proper flashing kits, so the light comes in and the water does not.
  • Spouting and Gutters: New spouting, gutter replacement and repairs in steel and PVC, sized to carry Auckland downpours.
  • Downpipes and Fascia: Downpipes and fascia replaced or repaired, often alongside new spouting or a re-roof.
  • Roof Painting: Roof painting that starts with proper preparation: wash, treat, repair and prime, then two coats of roof paint.
  • Roof Washing: Moss, lichen and grime removed with the right treatment for your roof type, without damaging the surface.
  • Roof Inspections: A detailed roof report with photos and honest repair or replace advice, for owners, buyers and insurers.
  • Roof Ventilation: Roof and ceiling space ventilation that reduces condensation, mould and heat build-up.
  • Commercial Roofing: Re-roofs, repairs and maintenance plans for commercial, industrial and multi-unit buildings.

Kumeū Homes and Their Roofs

Rural sheds, barns and homes around Kumeū are almost all longrun steel, while houses in the township range from older homes to newer subdivisions. On lifestyle blocks the roof feeds the rainwater tank, so spouting and downpipes need to be sized correctly and carry water cleanly to the tank. Older outbuildings may have corrugated fibre cement, which needs asbestos testing before anyone cuts or removes it. Large shed roofs with long sheet runs need fixings matched to the wind zone, and the right underlay and ventilation help control condensation.

What Kumeū Conditions Mean for Your Roof

Open rural land around Kumeū leaves roofs exposed to wind, so fixing patterns and ridge flashings take the brunt of it. On tank-water properties the roof surface and any coatings need to suit drinking water, and we disconnect the tank supply before cleaning or painting and tell you when it is safe to reconnect. Trees near homes and sheds drop leaves into spouting, which on a tank property feeds straight towards your water supply.

Roofers Kumeū FAQs

Can I collect drinking water from a new steel roof?

Yes, but the roof surface, any coatings and the spouting need to suit drinking water collection. We specify materials with that in mind on tank-water properties and talk you through the choices in the quote.

Do you roof sheds and barns as well as houses?

Yes. Most rural buildings around Kumeū are longrun steel, and we re-roof and repair sheds, barns and outbuildings as well as homes, with fixings and flashings matched to the site's wind zone.

My old shed has grey corrugated sheets. Is that asbestos?

It might be. Corrugated fibre cement, often called Super Six, was common on older buildings, and you cannot confirm asbestos by looking. We arrange a lab test before anyone cuts or removes it, and removal over 10 square metres needs a licensed removalist.

Will cleaning my roof contaminate my tank?

Not if it is done properly. We isolate the tank supply before cleaning or painting so nothing washes into it, and let you know when it is safe to reconnect.
