Pakuranga grew quickly once the new Panmure Bridge opened in 1959, on land subdivided for housing from the 1950s. The Pakuranga Town Centre followed in 1965 as one of New Zealand's first modern American-style malls. Most homes here are family houses from those decades, and many are still on their original roof or its first replacement.

Suburban Pakuranga has many 1950s to 1970s homes built with concrete tile, decramastic or corrugated iron, and those roofs are now regular re-roof jobs. Along the Tāmaki River, salt and estuary exposure come into the steel choice. Every job starts with a free on-site measure and an itemised written quote.

Roofing Services in Pakuranga

Every other roofing service we offer in Pakuranga, and what each one covers:

  • Re-Roofing: A full re-roof replaces your old roofing, underlay and flashings with a new COLORSTEEL roof built to today's Building Code.
  • Roof Replacement: When repairs no longer make sense, we replace the roof completely and leave you with a roof that is good for decades.
  • Tile to Metal Re-Roofing: Swapping heavy concrete tiles for lightweight steel removes weight from the frame and ends the cycle of cracked tiles and leaks.
  • Asbestos Roof Replacement: Older Super Six and fibre cement roofs can contain asbestos.
  • Decramastic Roof Replacement: Decramastic tiles lose their chip coating and rust from the inside.
  • Roof Leak Repairs: We track a leak to its source, which is often nowhere near the stain on your ceiling, and fix the cause.
  • Emergency Roof Repairs: Storm damage made safe fast, then repaired with the photos and reports your insurer needs.
  • Tile Roof Repairs: Cracked and slipped tiles replaced, ridges rebedded and repointed, and leaks under tiles traced and sealed.
  • Roof Flashing: Flashings around chimneys, skylights, walls and valleys cause most leaks.
  • New Roofs: New roofs for new builds, extensions and minor dwellings, installed to plans and signed off for your Code Compliance Certificate.
  • Metal Roofing: Longrun COLORSTEEL roofing in corrugate and trapezoidal profiles, rolled to length for your roof.
  • Membrane Roofing: Flat and low-pitch roofs, decks and gutters waterproofed with butynol and modern membrane systems.
  • Skylights: Roof windows and skylights installed or replaced with proper flashing kits, so the light comes in and the water does not.
  • Spouting and Gutters: New spouting, gutter replacement and repairs in steel and PVC, sized to carry Auckland downpours.
  • Downpipes and Fascia: Downpipes and fascia replaced or repaired, often alongside new spouting or a re-roof.
  • Roof Painting: Roof painting that starts with proper preparation: wash, treat, repair and prime, then two coats of roof paint.
  • Roof Washing: Moss, lichen and grime removed with the right treatment for your roof type, without damaging the surface.
  • Roof Inspections: A detailed roof report with photos and honest repair or replace advice, for owners, buyers and insurers.
  • Roof Ventilation: Roof and ceiling space ventilation that reduces condensation, mould and heat build-up.
  • Commercial Roofing: Re-roofs, repairs and maintenance plans for commercial, industrial and multi-unit buildings.

Pakuranga Homes and Their Roofs

Pakuranga's 1950s to 1970s family homes were built with concrete tile, decramastic or corrugated iron roofs. Concrete tiles are heavy and outlast their bedding and underlay, so tile to metal conversion is common, with the structure checked for wind uplift once the weight comes off. Decramastic is light, so moving to steel changes the load little, but older tiles can contain asbestos in the coating and must be tested. Iron roofs of this age usually need new fixings and flashings, or full replacement in longrun.

What Pakuranga Conditions Mean for Your Roof

Pakuranga sits along the Tāmaki River, and homes near the water can sit in an estuary or sea spray exposure zone that calls for the right steel grade, fixings and washing of unwashed areas. East Auckland is open to winds off the Tāmaki Strait, which matters for ridge and barge flashings. Inland Pakuranga was once a peat wetland, and the area's heavy clay can show up as minor movement at flashings and wall junctions on some older homes.

Roofers Pakuranga FAQs

Is my Pakuranga home close enough to the river to need coastal steel?

Possibly. Homes along the Tāmaki River can sit in an estuary or sea spray exposure zone. We look up your address on the BRANZ maps, check with COLORSTEEL where needed, and specify the steel and fixings to match.

My tile roof has cracked ridge mortar. Can that be fixed?

Yes. Ridge and hip bedding and pointing wear out long before the tiles. We remove the failed mortar, rebed and repoint the ridges, and check the underlay and valleys while we are up there.

Should I repair or replace my decramastic roof?

Individual tiles can be replaced where one area is damaged and the rest is sound. If the chip is gone across the roof and rust has set in, replacement with COLORSTEEL is usually better value. Either way, we test for asbestos first.

Do you replace fascia when you re-roof?

We can. Timber fascia is common on homes from the 1960s onward, and replacing damaged sections while scaffolding is up avoids a second set-up. It appears as a separate line in your quote.
